KCA – Everything you should know

How did you shortlist the Favourite Asian Sports Star and Favourite Pinoy Personality nominees?

We keep a lookout for personalities whom we feel are an inspiration and role model to kids through their work and accomplishments in their respective fields such as sports, television, movies and music. The eight nominees embody what we were looking for in the Favourite Asian Sports Star and Favourite Pinoy Personality categories.

How is voting done and the weightage for website and Twitter votes?

Fans can vote via the website and Twitter, using a specific hashtag for the nominee and the hashtag #KCA. Further, those in the Philippines can vote during the on-ground voting event held from 19 February to 4 March at selected Toy Kingdom retail locations. There is no difference between the weightage of votes coming through the website, Twitter or voting events.

Why is the focus on Pinoy Personalities for this year? How about the other countries in the region like Indonesia for example?

Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards is the only awards show that gives kids the power to vote for their favourites in movies, television, music, sports and much more. As part of our efforts to localise content and engage further with audiences in Asia, we’ve created regional and local awards categories and shows to honour other notable artists such as Favorite Asian Sports Star and Favorite Pinoy Personality this year. Kids can relate to sports and it’s definitely time to recognize some of the young popular sports personalities we have in the region. Creating the Favourite Pinoy Personality category adds local flavour to the awards and of course, give Filipino kids the chance to support their favourite local talents.

In Indonesia, a local format of the awards, Nickelodeon Indonesia Kids’ Choice Awards has been taking place since 2008 and broadcast live on GlobalTV. Last year, Nickelodeon gave out eight awards, including an Icon of the Year to a special public figure who inspired the children of Indonesia. Syahrini took home this award.

Previously, between 2012 to 2015, Nickelodeon ran the Favourite Asian Act category for the Kids’ Choice Awards and music acts such as Agnes Monica and JKT48 from Indonesia were nominated. Last year, we also introduced the Favourite Chinese Act category and Bibi Zhou and MAYDAY were among the nominees.

If you have not yet checked out the KCA, you have till 8 March Asia time to cast your vote.
