ATA Spotlight is a new segment introduced to showcase interview articles with personalities, catch ups with past winners along with sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes of performers and artists involved in Asian Television Awards. To start off the new segment, we interviewed 22nd Asian Television Awards performer GG Magree to share with us her thoughts regarding her live performance last year, as well as what she has to offer this 2018.
Australian Trap/ Bass DJ GG Magree performed for the first time in Singapore at the Asian Television Awards last year, along with stellar performances by award-winning Indonesian artist Afgansyah Reza, “Sing! China” finalist Joanna Dong, Taiwanese singer Bii and Kim Jong-kook from popular South Korean variety show “Running Man”.
After her vocal debut success with Zeds Dead and NGHTMRE in 2017 along with her first official single release One by One, she shares what to expect from her this year.
- Let’s do some catch up from your performance at ATA. How was the experience performing on both the awards night and live on TV?
Performing live on national television was one of the scariest but most liberating things I’ve ever done. So since then I feel like I have defiantly become inspired and ready to take on more stages.
- As for readers who are yet to familiarise themselves with your music, how would you identify in 5 words?
- You released your first official single One by One on Dead Label Deadbeats last year. Can you share with us how you felt after releasing your debut single?
It’s so crazy when you let go of the first music baby you make. Your emotions are defiantly all over the place. You want people to really love it as much as you do so I think at time you become insecure and ask yourself questions like, “Could I have done better? Does this represent me?” But once it comes out, all that stress kind of goes away, and you just let it find its way in the world.
- Your first single was released last August, do you have any upcoming songs that are in progress currently?
I have an upcoming release on 17 Jan and another in February and many more throughout the year. Let’s just say last year was a warm up for this year.
- What would be the 5 artists /songs most recently played in your playlist?
- DJ Snake
6: Do you have any influencers that contribute to the sound you make this present day?
For sound, I love anything with a deep grunting bass line, and I really think life its self is the biggest influence. I am so lucky to be surrounded by an amazing family and friends and my boss AF manager. They really have helped to develop me for who I am as an artist, and they make me push my boundaries and not be afraid to be different.
