‘Under Pressure’, a co-production between Globo and Conspiração Filmes had received four FIPA D’Or awards under the series category, during the 31st Festival International de Programmes Audivisuels (FIPA), held on 23-28 January in Biarritz, France.
In addition to the best series award, Marjorie Estiano was awarded as best actress for her performance as surgeon Carolina; Julio Andrade won the statuette for his role as doctor Evandro; and Jorge Furtado, Lucas Paraizo, Antonio Prata and Marcio Alemão won the award for Best Screenplay. The awards were received by screenwriter Lucas Paraizo during the ceremony held last Saturday. Fundamentally based on the precepts of independence and quality, FIPA had a total of 24,750 viewers this year.
‘Under Pressure’ features the fast-paced daily routine of a group of doctors struggling to overcome adversities to keep patients alive at an under-resourced hospital in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. The series is one of the flagships of Globo’s new productions released to the market, stemming from the network’s investments and efforts to take on new approaches towards storytelling.
Globo has attended several renowned film and audiovisual events around the world, such as Berlinale (Germany), Toronto International Film Festival (Canada), the Punta del Este International Film Festival (Uruguay), and Series Mania (France).
The next audiovisual festival to feature Globo’s productions will be Porto’s International Film Festival – Fantasporto. ‘Jailers’ and ‘Vade Retro’ were chosen for this year’s edition, to be held between February 20 and March 4, in Portugal. Mauro Mendonça Filho, director of ‘Vade Retro’, will attend the event.
Directed by Andrucha Waddington and Mini Kerti, ‘Under Pressure’ was based on Andrucha Waddington’s feature film with the same name. Co-produced between Globo and Conspiração Filmes, created by Luiz Noronha, Claudio Torres and Renato Fagundes based on an original idea by Mini Kerti, loosely inspired by the book “Sob Pressão – A rotina de guerra de um médico brasileiro”, by Marcio Maranhão. The series is by Jorge Furtado, who writes the episodes with Lucas Paraizo, Antonio Prata and Márcio Alemão, relies on Marcio Maranhão as medical consultant.
