Descendants of the Sun – What’s the hype about?

KBS 2TV, the Korean TV network which airs the hugely popular TV series Descendants of the Sun, has confirmed that there will not be an extension. This will probably break the hearts of Korean drama fans all around the world.

The Chinese government though will probably heave a huge sigh of relief, as had recently warned of the social ills of binge viewing the Korean TV drama. The Ministry recently posted on Weibo, “Watching Korean dramas could be dangerous, and may even lead to legal troubles.” Wonder why they didn’t ban Korean Dramas in China? Much like what they did to Facebook and Google (kidding of course). By the way, something totally random, the Asian Television Awards is now also available on Weibo!

Back to the main point. So what’s all that hype about?

Launched in 1996, Asian Television Awards is positioned as the only event of its kind within the Asian region, and upholds a prestigious reputation of showcasing quality television production. Determined by an expert panel of over 60 judges from across the region, the results are tabulated and audited by international auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, with the winners only announced during the Awards Ceremony in December. The proceedings of Asian Television Awards continue to be televised regionally reaching to more than 50 million households (and growing) across Asia.
