HOOQ original “Bhak” wins Grand Prize at RIIFF 2018

August 29, 2018 by Franco Rafael

SINGAPORE – HOOQ Filmmakers Guild’s inaugural winner, Bhak, gained international recognition after walking away with the Grand Prize for Best Television Pilot at the 22nd Annual Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF).  Widely recognised as a launch pad for emerging film talents, the RIIFF gathers the best of independent cinemas globally.

Jennifer Batty, HOOQ Chief Content Officer, commented: “We are extremely excited that a homegrown story like Bhak is shining on the international stage.  This underpins our belief that there are many worthy Asian stories to be told and many talents to be uncovered.  The vote of confidence from international filmgoers pushes us to dig deeper in our pursuit to discover and produce more HOOQ Originals for our audiences.  Big congratulations to Arjun and Shreyom on the well-deserved win.”

Bhak is a colourful dramedy that follows the adventures of two ambitious young filmmakers who, after being pushed around by Bollywood, decide to take matters into their own hands leading to a vicious, yet hilarious roller-coaster ride of frustration, passion, betrayal, and the love of Indian cinema.

Inspired by their real-life experiences, Bhak is written and directed by budding Indian Filmmakers Arjun Chatterjee and Shreyom Ghosh from Big3 Media. Starring Sreecharan Rachakonda, Harssh Singh, Priyanka Nath, Akash Arora, and Balaji Manohar, Bhak brings to life themes of passion, betrayal and love, all while looking at the struggle of independent filmmakers with an acerbic wit.

As the winner of HOOQ Filmmakers Guild, Bhak is greenlit and in production for an entire season to be exclusively available on HOOQ. Viewers can look forward to the full season on HOOQ towards the end of 2018.
